The Tehachapi Lions honored three local students as their September Students-of-the-Month on Sept. 21. Vincent Mendoza, a sixth grader, was chosen by the staff at Jacobsen Middle School because of his improved performance in his academics and punctuality. Vincent has many interests. He enjoys horseback riding with the Star Riders. He is active in his church and is a member of the Good News Club; he enjoys history, has an extensive dinosaur collection and he is a train spotter. Vincent would like to become a train engineer or a paleontologist in the future.

Kira Beaudin was chosen by the staff at Tehachapi High School. Kira is a very active senior at THS. She has been a member of color guard since 8th grade and has been a team captain since her sophomore year. She speaks Japanese and enjoys taking singing and dancing lessons. Kira has elected to take the capstone engineering class at THS without any prior engineering coursework. She also convinced the class to take on one large engineering project rather than taking the safe route of building up with smaller projects. Kira is positive, diligent, and has shown herself to be a leader. She is looking at several colleges that offer a Navy ROTC program. After college graduation she would like to become an officer involved with naval aviation.

Leslyi Dominquez was unable to attend, but was chosen by the staff at Monroe High School. Leslyi is a senior this year. She was selected because of her excellent attendance and hearty zeal demonstrated in class. She is working diligently to get back on track to graduation. She is very polite and has a kind heart.
