The minis are always hugely popular in the July 4th Parade!

June and July have been busy, action packed, fun months for the Carriage Club.

On June 17, we held one of our clicker training workshops. These events are wonderful to watch. The most interesting thing is to see how the equines learn new skills and progress. One of the best parts of clicker training is that the animals really enjoy it, and are focused and engaged. Of course it takes time and patience for an equine and human team to master the skills involved and become proficient at new training goals they tackle.

Sometimes progress has to be measured using proverbial 'baby steps'; but, even though this may seem slow, it is solid progress. As some wise person pointed out, "You can't teach anyone faster than they can learn". I had to think about that for a few minutes before I really grasped this concept – but it is very true and important to bear in mind when training any animal. It certainly applies to equines at our clicker training. Over time the rewards of being kind, patient and persistent during training are paid off a hundred fold as we forge strong human/equine partnerships.

Next on our schedule was a Ride and Drive which was organized for June 28 at the Golden Hills Nature Park. There was a great turnout, and the Carriage Club members were joined by friends from the Golden Hills area.

Mini wagon wheel – get it?

Jon led the procession that merrily proceeded around the park. There was water in the ponds, and even marshy areas that had to be avoided. In places, the tall grass was still lush and green. The temperature was perfect with a slight breeze which swayed the long fronds of grass to and fro gently. The park was certainly beautiful that day. The outing was such a treat. We are so lucky to have this beautiful destination to enjoy with our fellow Club members, equines and friends.

Then, of course, there was the July 4th parade. This year the parade boasted many equines of all sorts, shapes and sizes. The minis were a huge hit. The crowds clearly enjoyed watching them and the kids were delighted to have the opportunity to pet them. The minis really seem to love the attention! Congratulations to all the Carriage Club members who took part. This year's parade really was spectacular.
