Memorial Day Ceremony Planned

 


Plans for the annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony in Philip Marx Central Park are being finalized by the local veterans organizations along with the Recreation and Parks District. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 29 and upon reaching Philip Marx Park, the Memorial Day Services will begin.

This year’s Parade Chairman, Michael Johnson, is anxious to receive entries from anyone wishing to take part in the event. He may be contacted at (661) 577-6712.

The Posting of the Colors will begin the service, followed by an invocation and the singing of the National Anthem. The impressive ceremony will include the reading of the names of local veterans who passed away during the year as well as the names of the Gold Star veterans of past wars. A Rifle Salute and taps will be included followed by a musical tribute on the bagpipes. Wreaths will be placed honoring all branches of the service by members of the American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of the American Revolution. After the ceremony, the American Legion Auxiliary will be serving free hot dogs.

Ashley Krempien, Recreation Coordinator for Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District, has met with the veterans’ groups and is offering help for the ceremony as well as seeing to the setting up of equipment and the supervising of necessary community procedures.

Members of the community are urged to come to this ceremony which serves in remembering and giving honor to those who have served their country.
