Barbara H. Schultz personalizes a book at a book signing.

Mark your calendar and come to a special Barnes & Noble book signing with my friend, Barbara H. Schultz. Will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 12 noon until 4 p.m., 39228 10th Street West, Palmdale, Calif. 93551. 'Endorsed by Earhart – How Amelia Financed Her Flying.' March was the month we celebrated Women in History. This year is the 80th anniversary of Amelia Earhart's flight and purchasing one of Barbara's books would be great way to celebrate 'Women in History' and a fantastic American aviation icon.

Barbara Schultz and her husband, Phil, have the most romantic life of love and aviation that I can think of. Their house is positioned upstairs inside their hangar, complete with a balcony overlooking a beautiful aircraft collection, plus it's located on their very own airport with a 3,000-foot runway. Just in case you didn't know, it is every pilot's dream to own an airport and live in the hangar.

She is a member of the Ninety-Nines (International Organization of Women Pilots), International Women's Air and Space Museum, EAA (Experimental Aviation Association), and WAI (Women in Aviation).

Barbara's research and writings involve significant contributors to aviation who she feels should have their stories told. She was fortunate to be able to interview pioneering aviators, peruse their photos, and hear their stories. She feels that "to be significant, aviation history must include every facet and individual who became a part of flight".

Barbara also has a thriving business called Plane Mercantile with aviation gifts for all flying enthusiasts. Go to http://www.planemercantile.com and check out her website full of jewelry, note cards, mobiles, clocks and aviation books.

Read Past Issues of The Loop Newspaper, Online!

She has written many aviation related books, including: "Pancho, The Biography of Florence Lowe Barnes", "Flying Carpets, Flying Wings" (a biography about Moye W. Stephens, his friends, and his achievements in aviation), "Wedell-Williams Air Service" (a book on Jimmy Wedell and his aircraft) and her latest book, "Endorsed by Earhart – How Amelia Financed her Flying"

Following her historic flight aboard the Friendship in 1928, Amelia Earhart became the most sought after celebrity to endorse products. She represented courage, independence, and the modern woman despite the fact that she simply crossed the Atlantic as a passenger. Her photogenic image and testimonials enhanced sales from automobiles to magazines to chocolate bars. In return, whether quid pro quo or cash payments, Amelia was able to finance her flying. "Endorsed by Earhart" is a project which documents the many endorsements Amelia made before her untimely death in 1937. The book also reflects the creativity of manufacturers during the 1930s to remain competitive - whether they built cars or published magazines.

Since both Phil and Barbara retired, they are content to remodel their home, plan flying trips to Alaska, write books and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Phil retired in 2007 as Chief Test Pilot for General Electric Engines and tested the 90,000+ pound thrust GE-90 engine. She retired as Assistant Principal from Los Angeles County Office of Education in August 2008.

Phil and Barbara are the proud parents of two sons, Scott and Todd. Both have their ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) ratings and have jobs in the aviation industry. The family enjoys flying their magnificent Twin Beech 18, Cessna 150, Barb's Cessna 140 and a V-Tail Bonanza!
