What's Up in Stallion Springs?

Stallion Springs residents listen to Firefighter Union representative Jesse Waldowski review the proposed cutbacks at Station 18.

Stallion Springs residents held a meeting at noon on Saturday, Jan. 14 to rally against the proposed reduction of staffing at Station 18. The reduction proposed by the Board of Supervisors would reduce the staffing of the facility from three to two firefighters per shift. The reduction would result in a lower success rate on medical calls and CPR due to fatigue, increased costs and difficulty in obtaining insurance for local residents, and reduced effectiveness on containment and suppression of structure and wild fires in the area. Following the meeting the group walked the community passing out literature to make more residents aware of the issue.

The community feels, "Stallion Springs is often referred to as a cul-de-sac at the end of nowhere, as there is only one way in and one way out. Additional firefighting personnel and equipment are at least 20 minutes away in Tehachapi if the roads are open. We need a full staff of firefighters here.

The group plans to attend the Board of Supervisors meeting on Jan. 24 to express their concerns. Please plan to attend if you can. Additional information is available on the CERT web site: stallionspringscert1@gmail.com and the Neighborhood Watch web site: stallionneighborhoodwatch@gmail.com.
