On Friday Evening, Jan. 6, Tehachapi Treasure Trove will celebrate First Friday from 5-8 p.m. The eatured artist will be Cynthia Aronson, creator of handmade rosaries and rosary bracelets.

A little over a year ago a priest asked Cynthia if she could make rosaries. She made several and he purchased five of them. She then started getting requests from friends and relatives. She has now created more than 50 rosaries in addition to her rosary bracelets. She enjoys selecting the right beads to create a coordinated image.

Born in the Philippines, Cynthia attended private schools where the nuns taught only in English. At age 19 she decided that she wanted to attend school in the United States, and her command of English helped her to qualify for a visa. A young girl traveling alone was a daring departure from her native culture. Cynthia studied and lived in San Francisco for a number of years. She worked as a secretary, budget analyst and marketing representative. She married and raised two children.

Thirty-five years ago, Cynthia married her current husband who was employed by Dole. With him, she has the opportunity to travel all over the world to Europe, Asia, South America and the Caribbean Islands. In 2004 they started building their home in Stallion Springs, but did not become permanent residents until 2008. Currently she stays down south three days a week to care for two grandchildren. Her husband also has two children by a prior marriage. They both enjoy living in our mountain community.
