German influence is celebrated

Richard Noel entertained church members when he played the accordion on Reformation Sunday.

Reformation Sunday was recognized by Tehachapi Community Congregational Church because in 1517 Martin Luther posted the 95 Theses which marked the start of the Protestant Reformation in Germany. In the Sunday sermon, Pastor Nancy Bacon explained both the positive and negative aspects of this movement. Readings and hymns written by German theologians where used in the service.

After church the congregation gathered in Friendship Hall for a meal which featured many typical German foods. During the meal, Richard Noel entertained by playing the accordion. It wasn't long before the lively music had people dancing.

Richard Noel is an excellent musician who can play any type of song. His accordion is capable of making many sounds so it sometimes seems as if a small band is playing.

Noel retired from teaching at Cal State Bakersfield College where he was Chair of the Psychology Department. That was when he decided to become a professional musician. He plays for weddings, parties, and all kinds of gatherings. His reputation as a wonderful entertainer is well known, and he is much in demand.

The church is located at the corner of Green and E Streets. Worship is held Sundays at 10:30 a.m. All people are welcome to participate.
