City Update: August 15 Meeting

From the City

Lee Aragon, representing the local Loyal Order Of Moose lodge, appeared at the Tehachapi City Council meeting on August15 to make sure all council members had Good Time Badges for this year's Mountain Festival. City Manager Greg Garrett assisted Mr. Aragon by collecting badge payments from City Council.

At their August 15 meeting, the Tehachapi City Council voted to unanimously sign an agreement between the City of Tehachapi and the High Speed Rail Authority to track any eligible expenses by the city related to the project and to invoice the HSRA for the reimbursement of those expenses. The agreement was initiated by HSRA as a way for the city to recoup some of the costs for services related to items such as research requests. The agreement is not meant to be an approval of the High Speed Rail said Development Services Director, Jay Schlosser.

Councilwoman Kim Nixon told the council that, in the course of her six year involvement with National Night Out, she has heard much conversation about how few activities for kids there are here in the valley. She said that she is planning a valley-wide program that would involve a charette type process to brainstorm solutions to this void. She reported that School Superintendent Susan Andreas- Berval and TVRPD General Manager LeAnne illiams are already on board. Nixon plans to have charettes in the various communities of Tehachapi. City Manager Greg Garrett added his support to the process and Nixon said that she will notify the communities when she has the meetings scheduled.
