Mary Beth Garrison, Energy Upgrade California Ambassador in this area discusses Energy and Water savings with the Stallion Springs POA.
Mary Beth Garrison, along with her buddy "Bear", a life-size image of a bear, was the speaker at the Stallion Springs Property Owners Association meeting on May 24. Garrison presented ways to decrease energy use and save money at home. She talked about taking small energy saving steps to make a big difference in our SCE bills and where to get rebates on many energy upgrades. COMMUNITY CLEAN SWEEP, a local nonprofit organization started by Garrison in 1989, is the official Energy Upgrade California Ambassador in this area. As an ambassador, Mary Beth has spoken to community groups from Delano to California City, helping them understand how they can make an environmental difference that pays dividends. Board of Directors Election
The Stallion Springs Community Services District Board of Directors will have three seats up for election on the November 8, 2016 Consolidated General Election ballot. The board member term is for 4 years and regular board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month. Special meetings and closed session meetings are held at various times throughout the year. Interested parties will need to pick up a "Declaration for Candidacy" form from the Auditor-Controller-County Clerk's office between July 18 and August 12, 2016 before 5 p.m. in Bakersfield.
Candidates wishing to submit a Candidate's Statement of no more than 200 words, for printing and distribution to the voters, must submit such statement for filing at the same time the Declaration of Candidacy is filed. The statement must be prepared on a form supplied by the Elections Office. CERT
The Stallion Springs Community Emergency Response Team held a cleanup day on Saturday, June 4 to help get it ready for the upcoming fire season.
The Stallion Springs CERT Team is conducting a survey to plan for the care and emergency evacuation of large animals, should the need arise. We would like to create a database of residents and attempt to get a head count of equines in the area. Please call the SSCSD at (661) 822-3268 with the following information as soon as possible: Say, "I'm registering for the large animal emergency preparedness". Leave your name, address, phone number, email, type of large animals, and if you have a horse trailer and, if so, its capacity.
Fire Prevention
The weed abatement deadline is June 15, 2016 and the Kern County Fire Department will be issuing fines for properties not mowed or abated. The District implements a weed abatement program that will mow your lot for a nominal fee, if needed. Contact the CSD office at (661) 822-3268 to be placed on the weed abatement list or make sure to mow before June 15 to avoid penalties.
Stallion Springs Board of Directors
The Board meets on the third Tuesday of every month. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 21, at 6 p.m. at the CSD Board Room.
Property Owners Association (POA)
The CERT team work detail cleaning up to help prevent the spread of fire should a wild fire occur.
POA meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Everyone is welcome. The POA Annual Meeting is scheduled for June 25 at the Community Center.
4-H
Meets on the Second Friday of the month at 7 p.m. in the library. For more information about the Stallion Springs 4-H group contact Lori Rogers at (661) 822-3268.
The Neighborhood Watch
Neighborhood Watch meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month, the next meeting is on June 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the CSD. You do not have to reside in Stallion Springs to attend.
Houchin Blood Drive
At the CSD, June 18, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
