The Popular Sport and Practical Side of Bike Riding

There is no denying that the use of bicycles has increased tremendously in the last few years. Not only for the purpose of sport such as mountain biking and racing, but more and more people are riding their bikes to and from work. According to CNN Money the use of bikes to commute to work has increased 70% since 2000. Did you realize that there is a National Bike to Work Day (which this year was on May 20th) and Bike to Work week (May 16-29, 2016). The enthusiasm and participation for this event and for bicycling in general has just continued to grow and is especially significant in urban areas.

Here in Tehachapi the increase in bike paths, introduction to the Gran Fondo and the growth of the Mountain Bike Trails Association have all rallied to create a safe and desirable environment which encourages this trend and makes our city a bike haven for many. The cost savings, environmental and health benefits of biking are endless.

In keeping with this emergent love of cycling, the Rotary Club of Tehachapi is currently offering the opportunity to win a Trek x-Calibre 8 Hardtail 29er Cross Country Mountain Bike. The bike is valued at $1150. For a $5 investment you could be the proud owner. Tickets are available and the bike is on display at The Sail Thru Car Wash on Tucker Road. The winner will be drawn the evening of September 16 at the Gran Fondo pasta dinner on Friday night. This gives you lots of opportunities to enter before the bike is given away. The money that Rotary earns from this fundraiser goes right back into the community for our community based projects which include a senior holiday luncheon, battery replacement, Breakfast with Santa for families, leadership camp for teens, scholarships for H.S. grads, personalized books to promote literacy for all kindergarten students, the creation of a kids korner at the new hospital and so many other projects. So, even if you don’t win the bike your are helping the community. Of course, you could be the lucky winner, so, get your ticket today at Sail Thru Car Wash. The Rotary Club of Tehachapi meets every Thursday at noon at Big Papa’s Steakhouse. We get a lot done and enjoy doing it. For more information about Rotary call Tim Trujillo at (661) 821-0086.
