Healthy never tasted so good – Part 1

Celebrating with Food and Family:

It is that time of year again when we begin celebrating with food, friends, family members and co-workers.  For most of us, food plays a major part in celebrating these holidays.  As Americans become more health conscious, many of us now attempt to eat healthy foods that satisfy our taste buds while satiating our cells.  Food can be both healthy and tasty at the same time. Try our new "Mama Vega Tehachapi Apple Butter" and you'll see exactly what we mean – available at Albertsons and U-Neek Findz.  "Mama Vega" brings you the best products using the freshest locally-sourced ingredients.

Foods for Your Brain:

"Your brain is like the engine in your car. Give it crappy fuel to burn and it chokes every time.  Give it the right fuel and you get optimum performance.  Your car engine does not have a choice and cannot pick its fuel, but you have a choice as to what will fuel your engine – your brain." says Dr. Vega.

As you celebrate with friends, family members and co-workers, remember to feed your body the right foods.  Some brain foods you should consider are  avocado, walnuts, organic coconut oil, real butter (grass fed), and cilantro, to name a few.

A Quick Recipe for you:

The recipe below is from page #43 of "NOW, CHEW ON THIS... Keeping Health In Mind" cookbook by Dr. Charmene Vega and Marion Young – now available at mamavega.com.

 2. Pre-season chicken with the Mama Vega Hillbilly Rub, minced garlic and Mama Vega Lemon Lime Pepper.

 3. Place the pre-seasoned chicken in the preheated pan and stir around almost like a sauté until golden brown on one side. Flip the chicken so both sides get golden brown.

 4. When done, place chicken on a platter.

 5. Drizzle with BBQ sauce and top with cilantro and browned lemon slices.

 Quick info:

BBQ Lemon Chicken actually helps your body digest protein in a really interesting way. Lemon on the chicken helps your body to actually digest the protein that's in it, and it better balances the pH in your body.
