Announcing veterans services teleconferencing in Tehachapi

TEHACHAPI - Second District Supervisor Zack Scrivner announced today all veterans are welcome to speak to a Kern County veterans Services representative via teleconferencing at his Tehachapi office on the first Tuesday of every month, which started on Oct. 6, 2015.

"I am happy to provide my Tehachapi office to those Eastern Kern vets to speak with the county veterans Services Department to explore any and all benefits they may be entitled to. Using the teleconferencing at my office will save veterans their time and money on trips into Bakersfield," said Supervisor Scrivner.

Monthly meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of the month from 9 to Noon.

There are four appointment slots available each month, and each slot has a 40-minute duration.

Appointment times are 9:00 a.m., 9:40 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 11:10 a.m.

$896,000 grant for new sidewalks in Mojave

MOJAVE - Second District Supervisor Zack Scrivner announced today that Mojave has been awarded a grant of $896,000 to construct new sidewalks throughout the town. The Kern County Public Works Department applied for the Active Transportation Program Grant earlier this year, and was just informed that Mojave's application was the highest scored in the entire state of California. A total of 697 applications were submitted to the state.

"I am thrilled that Mojave won this grant – and it was because of the incredible amount of feedback and support letters and petitions the county received from the community. This could not have been possible without the active engagement of the citizens of Mojave. I also wish to praise the hard work of the staff at the County Public Works Department – they held over a dozen public meetings about this grant and did a superb job collecting public comment, as well as applying for the grant."

The grant will be used to construct new sidewalks throughout the town of Mojave, and to improve the safety of the walking public. Construction is set to begin in fiscal year 2016-17, but preliminary design and utility work has already begun.
