Susan Showler had moved from Minnesota to Valencia, California in 2014, but she loved the mountains of Tehachapi and the change of the seasons so in the spring of this year, she packed up and moved to Tehachapi. She said that the mountains here are “crazy beautiful”.

Susan came to California as a contractor in marketing, communications and graphic design for Donaldson, a global industrial filter manufacturer; a job that she was able to bring with her from Minnesota. However, after her move to Tehachapi and over18 years in corporate marketing, she began to think about retirement and perhaps more local employment. About that time she learned that the Tehachapi News was looking for help with ad sales and she has worked with them ever since.

Born in “upstate” New York, Albion to be exact, Susan has two brothers and a sister. She said her early jobs were print related. She worked for the “Penneysaver” and for a printing company where she learned the skills of old fashioned typesetting and photography. Photography is still her favorite hobby.

She moved to Minnesota in 1996 with her family. Susan said that she thought that Minnesota was a great place for kids. Her son, Andrew, now lives in St. Paul and works for a trade show house there. Her daughter, Sharayah, lives in Indiana. Sharayah is mom to Susan’s six year old grandson Emery who, according to his grandma, is a wiz at Lego and Minecraft.

Over the years, Susan has developed a love of art museums and literature. These and her photography take up much of her free time when she has it.

Welcome, Susan! The city of Tehachapi and the Tehachapi News are lucky to have you.

After spending three years in Costa Mesa, California, Raymond and Yin-Chi Fuller decided that it was time to move closer to Raymond’s work. For the last year and a half, he had been commuting from Costa Mesa to Mojave where he is an aerospace engineer for Virgin Galactic. Moving to Tehachapi made sense.

The end of the school year was a good time to move for their children, eight-year-old Zeb and ten-year-old Abi, and also for Yin-Chi. Yin-Chi was Community Liaison and Chinese translator for the Irvine School District. When I asked if the children were happy about the move, Yin-Chi said that both the children and the parents were looking forward to it.

Raymond was born in Hazel Park, Michigan, the youngest of four children. He has three older sisters and one of them is currently living in Costa Mesa. After he finished high school, Raymond attended the University of Michigan and then Virginia Tech. He spent some time living in the United Kingdom and was living in England when he met Yin-Chi.

Yin-Chi was born in Taiwan, one of three girls. The family immigrated to the United States when Yin-Chi was twelve years old and settled in New Jersey. She went to school there and had spent one year at Rutgers University when the family moved back to Taiwan. She decided to continue her education in the UK and it was there that she received her Master’s degree in Education. She met Raymond in England and they traveled to Taiwan to be married.

The couple lived in Alabama for seven years while Raymond was working with NASA. Yin-Chi was a stay-at-home mom for five years before taking a position teaching technology and Chinese at a local private school.

Raymond loves cycling and is delighted that he is living in a community so enthusiastic about the sport. Yin-Chi keeps in shape by kickboxing, a sport she has pursued for some time. She would someday like to return to teaching if Chinese was offered in a local school. For now she is happy being Mom to her children and the family Siamese cat, Adoua.

Welcome to Tehachapi, Fuller family!
