The Main Street Chili Cookoff will take place on Saturday, June 20 from 11 am to 3:30 p.m. along Green Street in Downtown Tehachapi. Join in the festival atmosphere with activities and treats for kids, food vendors, and chili tasting.
Popular local band "Movin' On" will perform from Noon to 4 p.m. in front of the Hitching Post Theaters, playing a wide variety of musical genres which include country, rock, rockabilly, blues, standards, and Americana. Nearby will be the Main Street Beer Garden, serving craft beer from Honey Wagon, Tehachapi's own local brewery. Strawberry and lime-a-rita drinks will also be sold.
Amateur chili cooks are still needed to compete for "bragging rights" to Tehachapi's best chili. The deadline for entries has been extended to the week of the cookoff.
Samples will be first come, first served and may run out quickly, so be sure to get there early in order to vote in the "People's Choice" competition.
The amateur cooks will be set up along Green Street and must have their chili ready to serve at 12:30 pm. Application available at MainStreetTehachapi.org.
Competitors in the International Chili Society will be set up along West F Street making their own, unique chili to compete for prizes and a chance to advance to the Regional Cookoff. They will also serve their chili when it's ready, around 12:30 p.m. They would love to discuss their chili cooking techniques with you, but don't expect them to tell you their "secret ingredient"!
The Red Hot Classic and Antique Car Show will be along East F Street and more information is available on the website at MainStreetTehachapi.org.
This year's Chili Cookoff Festival is sponsored by Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District, The City of Tehachapi, Benz Sanitation, Honey Wagon Brewery, and The Loop newspaper. Also visit the Historic Tehachapi Depot and Railroad Museum at Tehachapi Blvd and Green Street for the annual Fun Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be movies, storytelling, treats, and other activities for kids of all ages. The Tehachapi Museum and Errea House Museums on Green Street will be open from Noon to 4 p.m.

The popular local band Movin' On will appear again this year at the 8th annual Main Street Tehachapi Chili CookOff.
Movin’ On will appear at the Main Street Tehachapi Chili CookOff again this year. The local band has a great following and has appeared in numerous local venues, such as the VFW and Moose Lodge, Souza Family Vineyard events, the Bear Valley Country Club, the Harvest Moon Dance, and most recently the fundraiser for Healing Horses and Armed Forces.
Band members include vocalist Kat Gair, guitarists Gary Levin and Paul Hughes, bassist David Crowe, and behind the drum kit you never know if it is going to be Nick Benedict, John Wayne or Burt Lancaster at the gig. This year the band added keyboards to the mix which has enabled them to expand their playlist with Soul music and Americana. What makes the sound of Movin’ On distinctive is their ability to weave intricate vocal harmonies together with tight instrumental arrangements.
The Chili CookOff is free to the public. It takes place on Saturday, June 20 this year from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
