Café Musique presents a rich mixture of styles, including gypsy, tango, classical, jazz and folk.
Get out your dancing shoes and get ready to tango – Café Musique is coming back to town! The Quintet received such an enthusiastic reception when they performed in Fiddlers Crossing last year that they are giving an encore concert Friday, June 12, at 7 pm. Instead of the usual downtown venue, Fiddlers Crossing is holding the concert in the larger St. Jude's in the Mountains Anglican Church, 1200 South Curry St.
The five members of Café Musique may hail from the California's central coast, but they each have at least one foot planted deep in foreign musical soil. Merging their very different backgrounds, the quintet presents a rich mixture of styles, including gypsy, tango, classical, jazz and folk. Combining powerful vocals with soaring violin and driving accordion, the audience will be treated to an exotic and exciting sonic journey around the world.
Those who have attended Camp Kiya will know violinist Brynn Albanese as one of the fiddle instructors for the last three years. This year, she will be joined at the camp by two of her bandmates, accordion master Duane Inglish and guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Eric Williams. Brynn has toured and performed world-wide sharing her exhilarating style with audiences from Boston to the Netherlands. In Massachusetts, she served as concertmaster and soloist for the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, the Boston Philharmonic, and as principal second and soloist of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. Brynn currently teaches violin and is an orchestral coach for the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Symphony.
Duane Inglish started playing accordion at the age of six. He has lived in San Luis Obispo since 1971, and was one of the founders of the Live Oak Music Festival in Santa Barbara. He has owned an acoustic music venue, helped produce countless shows and concerts featuring folk, blues and bluegrass music, and hosted "Basically Bluegrass" at KCBX Public Radio in San Luis Obispo for the last sixteen years. Duane has also been involved in musical productions at Cuesta College.
Eric Williams has mastered the guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele and bouzouki. He has been a recording artist and album producer on more than one-hundred albums. He has performed and toured with Tori Amos, Taj Mahal, Tracy Ullman, and Russian Balalaika Orchestras, and he has recorded with Rita Coolidge.
Bassist Fred Murray, has been playing music most of his life. He was playing bass in his first band at age 14. He has played in venues across the country, in a wide variety of styles, from rock, jazz and funk to Cajun, blues and country. Café Musique gives him the opportunity to use his wide bass repertoire. He also enjoys building and repairing guitars.
Craig Nuttycombe began his musical career in the 1960s playing rhythm guitar in a surf band while in high school. He has been recording as a duo and solo performer since 1970, and has worked with members of Fleetwood Mac, Three Dog Night and The Eagles. Along with singing and playing guitar, he also writes tunes.
The members of Café Musique weave their varied musical backgrounds into a wild tapestry that will have every toe at least tapping. Tango dancers, there will be room down front reserved for you!
