Mega author book signing to help save Tehachapi's Pets

Tehachapi-Have a Heart Humane Society is excited to announce the publication of "Touched By A Furry Angel," with a book signing featuring 25 Tehachapi pet lovers/writers on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14, 10 am – 4 pm at Tehachapi's Railroad Park during the Springtyme Faire. (Group photo on Saturday at noon.)

The book is the brainchild of New York Times bestselling author and publisher (Bell Bridge Books), Deb Smith, who volunteered her time and publishing expertise to create a heartwarming book that could be used to generate funds for the rescue, whose mission is to create a no-kill Tehachapi through spay and neuter.

"Many of my writer friends are into pet rescue," says Chelley Kitzmiller, founder/president of Have a Heart Humane Society. "One day Deb and I were talking and she mentioned helping her home town shelter create a book to sell and offered to help me create one as well. It was an offer I couldn't refuse. I am always looking for ways to be self-sustaining because I hate asking people for money."

Once the title and cover were worked up, the Tehachapi Loop newspaper announced the book and locals were invited to submit stories about their beloved pets, photos and poetry. The stories came pouring in and Kitzmiller was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the writing.

Kitzmiller visited Golden Hills Elementary School and garnered a half dozen priceless little stories and drawings from Heather Gibson's first grade class. Gibson had talked to the kids about being kind to dogs and cats and asked them to write about what dogs and cats needed to live happy lives. "It was a good lesson for the kids," says Kitzmiller, "they really got into it."

"Touched By A Furry Angel" is a large print trade paperback that retails for $11.99 plus tax-a perfect gift for pet-lovers of all ages. It is also in eBook format at $2.99. Books will be available at the signing and for those who can't attend, they can purchase copies at Amazon.com. All proceeds go to help more Tehachapi's pets. Every eight books sold will spay a large female dog. Every thee books sold buys four microchips.

There has never been a book signing like this in Kern County's history! "Touched By A Furry Angel" is more than a collaboration of stories by pet lovers, it's a statement about everyday people working together to make a difference in their own community.
