Hard working, focused and very talented are the best words to describe Cory Lockwood. Raised in the hills of Tehachapi, California, Cory has spent the majority of his life racing. During his two-wheel racing career he has successfully competed in both motorized and human-powered bike events. His talents for two wheels began with motocross from a young age, where he moved through the ranks to a local pro level. After racing motocross, bicycling became his main focus. He began competing in USA Cycling sanctioned races with great success and numerous victories in both road and mountain, as well as a California road racing state championship.

Cory was recently approached by Joe Petersen, a multi-time Race Across America (RAAM) winner and record holder, and was asked to compete on his four-man RAAM team for 2015. The goal of the team is to win this prestigious race and set a new four man transcontinental world record, which currently stands at 5 days 8 hours and 17 minutes on a 2,959 mile course. To accomplish this goal the racers will be required to ride a blistering fast relay speed around the clock for five days straight. Thus far, Cory and his three team members Joe Petersen, Bill Elrich and David Stanton, have been training furiously to prepare for the race that starts on Saturday, June 20, 2015 in Oceanside, Calif. Cory and his three team members are sponsored by Make a Wish and Kern Wheelmen's bicycle club, and they will be competing in several local events as part of their preparation and fundraising for the grueling five day relay race.

The 2015 RAAM race will be hosting teams from all over the world in what promises to be one of the most competitive years they have seen to date. If you are a cycling enthusiast or an avid sports fan, this is a great opportunity to be involved in a home town kid's sports career and a local cycling team's endeavor as they compete on a national level.

Cory invites you to come out to a practice race on Saturday, May 16, at the local "Bena Road Time Trial" to meet him, see the team in action and witness Cory's attempt to set a new course record time of under 27:04 in preparation for RAAM. For those of you who are interested in being a part of Cory Lockwood's ride, or the team's ride across the United States, there are sponsorship opportunities available and crew positions open. So, come check out the bike racing and meet Cory and the Kern Wheelmen/Make a Wish RAAM team.
