Kids, staff, and volunteers pose for a photo outside the after school facility located in the Salvation Army building across the street from Monroe High.

The recent fundraiser tea party held by the Rotary Club of Tehachapi raised funds for the Salvation Army's after school program. Junior High and High School aged kids are welcome at this wonderful after school hangout. Located across the street from Monroe High School at the corner of Tehachapi Blvd. and Dennison Rd., kids can show up after school, grab a snack, meet friends, and play various games. Games include foosball, ping pong, cards, basketball, and a host of board games. Supervised by a variety of volunteers as well as staff members, all under the direction of Michal Knowles.

On Mondays, Colleen Grant teaches free art classes. Thursdays, Jim Davis offers free guitar lessons, and soon Cathy Criger will be offering a beginning basic sewing class. There is also a computer lab, often times staffed by a knowledgeable volunteer. After school tutoring is also available.

Parents are encouraged to visit the Salvation Army Community Center and kids are welcome to come by during the operating hours of Noon – 6 p.m. and check them out. The location is 538 E. Tehachapi Blvd. in Tehachapi. Their phone number is (661) 823-9508.
