The official CHP Mascot "Chipper" is pictured here with a young toy recipient. The annual CHiPs For Kids Christmas Toy Drive was a huge success in Mojave, Calif. After a visit with Santa each child could go into the "toy room" where they could each pick two toys from the hundreds that were donated. Moms were able to pick up a box of Christmas dinner fixings, as well as a frozen turkey or ham. It was estimated that in excess of three hundred Mojave families were participating in this year's event co-sponsored by the Salvation Army, Kern County Fire Fighters and Kern County Sheriff Dept.

Mojave, CA – On December 17, 2014, The California Highway Patrol (CHP) in the Mojave Area distributed over 1300 toys to underprivileged families through a partnership with the Salvation Army. The generosity the Eastern Kern Communities demonstrated was unbelievable. We were able to give toys to children who would not normally have anything to open on Christmas Day. The CHP distributed toys to the Women's Center High Desert in Ridgecrest, Calif., to the Salvation Army in Ridgecrest, Calif., The Salvation Army in Tehachapi, Calif., and the Salvation Army in Mojave, Calif.. Additionally we were able to provide stuffed animals to children in the Pediatric unit of Ridgecrest Regional Hospital.

The CHP was able to establish partnerships with various community organizations and they would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Salvation Army, The Spaceship Company, Scaled Composites, Stoken Donuts, Mojave Air and Spaceport, TerraGen, The Voyager Restaurant, local queens and princesses from the Mojave and Rosamond area, WalMart, Tehachapi Martial Arts Center, Petsmart, and BOB F.M. 103.9. A special thank you goes out to George and Linda Pruitt and the entire group of volunteers at the SageBrush Short Line Railroad.

Mojave CHP Commander, Lieutenant Julian Irigoyen stated, "The success the CHP experienced this year would not have been possible without the partnerships with local businesses and a generous community. Thank you for your generosity, have a wonderful holiday season, and a safe and sober New Year."
