Tehachapi – American Legion Auxiliary Unit 221 and District 15 hosted Harriet Clendenin September 21 during a stopover in her year-long state wide tour to call on community members. Mrs. Clendenin had the opportunity to discuss the various veteran support efforts in Tehachapi and surrounding communities, including ending Veteran homelessness, supporting our military and their families, and creating awareness of the American Legion Auxiliary organization for membership opportunities.

After 94 years the American Legion Auxiliary is still the world's largest patriotic service organization. We make a difference in veterans lives every day around the world. We honor their service willingly and selflessly; collectively we make a huge impact. In 2014 the ALA, from Unit to Department to National, donated $2.1 BILLION towards the Auxiliary's programs. That's impact! We value one hour of serve at $22.55. American Legion Auxiliary members have volunteered more than 9.3 million hours of service to our veterans, service members, and their families.

As part of the world's largest women's patriotic service organization, Auxiliary volunteers in Tehachapi also step up to honor veterans and military through annual scholarships and with ALA Girls State programs, teaching high school juniors to be leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism.
