Jogye Order Korean Temple & International Zen Center in Tehachapi

Join the 20 year celebration of Spirit Center (Taegosa) Jogye Order Korean Temple and International Zen Center in Tehachapi on September 13 & 14.

Located at 8400 Juniper Way in the Sand Canyon area of Tehachapi, CA, Mountain Spirit Center was founded in 1994 by Erik Berall (Muryang Sunim), a Zen practitioner and student of Zen Master Seung Sahn. The temple, considered a modern masterpiece of design, "off-the-grid" sustainability, spirituality, and wellbeing, was built by practicing people, Zen students, and the Korean community of Los Angeles, California, Korea, and worldwide over 10 plus years as a place for people to practice meditation and sincerely pursue awakening for the benefit of all beings.

On Sunday, September 14th, 2014 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Mountain Spirit Center (Taegosa) will mark its 20-year anniversary with a public ceremony.

The anniversary festivities will begin on Saturday, September 13th in the evening at 7 p.m. with a traditional Tea Ceremony and movie screening of "On The Way," a Korean documentary following the Zen life of three Korean Buddhist nuns. On Sunday, the main event will begin at 11 a.m. with a short ceremony including Tai Chi Chuan demonstration, Korean pop dance, and singing performance, followed by a Temple Festival and vegetarian lunch at noon. There will also be an opportunity for people to light a candle and make a wish, and a photo display of the 20 years history.
