What's Up in Stallion Springs?

The Stallion Springs CSD Board of Directors held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 27 with Directors Burt, Lamkin, Young and Gunshinan present with Director Mueller joining by phone.

The board approved a Resolution authorizing the General Manager to prepare a report of the properties with Delinquent and Inactive charges. A Resolution was also approved to have the tax assessment to fund the cost of the District's Police/Administration Building. General Manager Mary Beth Garrison noted that there are only four payments, to be made over the next two years, left on the building then the tax will go away.

Stallion Springs Police

Police Chief Mike Grant swore in and welcomed James "Jimmy" Best as Stallion's latest addition to the Stallion Springs Department. Best, a Stallion Springs resident since 2008, comes to the department having retired after 12 years serving as a Los Angeles County Sheriff and has worked private security. He also has served for four years on the Board of the Stallion Springs Police Activities League. Best will be a part time officer, working two days a week. His equipment and salary will be paid for with funds from a grant.

Grant reminded the group the police are dispatched through the Sheriff's department. On 911 calls you should note that you are in Stallion Springs and non-emergencies should be reported to Sheriff's dispatch at 661-861-3110 to help expedite service and so that a record of the call is on file.

Property Owners Association

Craig Mifflin, Manager of Environmental and Public Affairs at Lehigh Southwest Cement Company was the guest speaker at a well-attended meeting of the Stallion Springs Property Owners Association on May 27. Mifflin gave a brief history of the plant, environmental and solar projects underway. Of major interest was the burning of trash to provide fuel for the kiln to make the cement.

It was announced that the group had presented two $1,000 scholarships to Stallion Springs Seniors, Ryan Barns and Megan Barns at the Tehachapi High School awards presentations earlier in the evening.

The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 10 a.m. and Election of officers for the coming year will be held at the meeting.

Sunday, June 15- State of CA deadline to clear your property of weeds and tall grass for fire abatement.
