First Friday

May 2, Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m., Tehachapi Treasure Trove will again celebrate our First Friday Fun Fest. You're invited to come see our ever changing displays full of art, crafts, collectables and art supplies. May's featured artist will be Sachiko Shiratsu Beaudin. Music will be provided by Art Larsen on clarinet. Please join us for fun, refreshment, music and art.

Sachiko has on display prints of her acrylic paintings of scenes from Obama-city in Fukui, Japan, a picturesque ocean city historically serving as the gateway between Japan's ancient capital city of Kyoto and trade with China and Korea. Sachiko wishes to share with Americans the beauty of her father's village. The original paintings are done in acrylics with intricate detail and subtle variations in color.

Sachiko also creates great earrings out of origami (paper folding) that are truly unique. Very tiny folded cranes and fans are coated with a resin finish and then incorporated into earrings. Even the boxes are traditionally hand made.

Sachiko was born in Tokyo, Japan. She married her husband while he was in the Navy. They moved to Tehachapi in 2005, back to Okinawa in 2007 and returned to Tehachapi in 2009. They have two daughters.

Sachiko has been painting since she was a child. She has also created dried flower designs, done tole painting and jewelry making. She is a gifted artist.
