Donated Pet ID Scanner put into action

City of Tehachapi

Officers from the Tehachapi Police Department used a new piece of equipment on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 27) to reunite a lost dog turned into TPD. Makaya was identified and returned to her family within 15 minutes using the microchip scanner donated on August 24 by Have a Heart Humane Society to TPD.

"Having the new scanner and being able to identify Makaya and returning her so quickly shows the importance of having strong partnerships in the community," said Kent Kroeger, Chief of Police.

Stray dogs are occasionally brought into the police station due to the extended time it takes animal control to arrive. "We were happy to see the family get back together so quickly," said Kroeger.

We contacted Gina Christopher from Have a Heart Humane Society and told her of the success story with Makaya and Gina said," I'm thrilled, anytime a dog doesn't have to go the Mojave Shelter and can be returned so quickly. Animals can be subjected to disease and this helps avoid that."
