Audubon August activities to highlight Raptors

Everyone is invited to attend an Audubon field trip on Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Nature Park in Golden Hills. Come walk the trails in the west part of the park; identifying birds, viewing raptor nests, and learning about birds of prey as you watch a demonstration given by local falconers. Meet in the Burger King parking lot on Tehachapi Blvd. at 8 a.m., or come directly to Golden Hills and park on Fairway Drive. The walk starts promptly at 8:30 and concludes at noon. Please wear closed-toed shoes. A hat, water, and camera are recommended.

The regular meeting of Audubon Tehachapi will be Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Golden Hills School, 20215 Park Road. Local falconer Steve Shaw will speak on raptors and the amazing world of feathers. Steve began falconry in his early teens and has been deeply involved in the sport for the last fifteen years. He currently flies two falcons and a Harris's hawk. Light refreshments and a raffle will follow the presentation. All are welcome; bring a friend or neighbor.

Audubon activities are free and open to the public. For additional information call (661) 599-1889. Kern Audubon Tehachapi is a satellite chapter of the Kern Audubon Society.
