August 4 is First Friday at Gallery 'N' Gifts. This month will feature their annual "Take Your Best Shot" summer photo contest. Over 50 photographers have entered their favorite photos in this year's contest featuring eight different categories including: Landscape & Nature, Altered Images, Travel, Animals, Elements of Design, Flowers and Youth Photography. "It's fun to see how the photographers grow every year and to welcome new photographers into the creative spotlight," said contest organizer Gale Caldwell. Stop by Gallery 'N' Gifts on First Friday, enjoy free appetizers and refreshments with the photographers. While you're there pick your favorite photo, and see if you match the judges pick for the $100 Best of Show cash prize!

"Art on the Porch" continues in August with a First Friday display of cowboy, ranching, farming, and outdoor items on the porch at the Errea House from 5 to 8 p.m. Jon Hammond will be the featured guest and will bring some items from his collection of cowboy and farming related items he has collected from the Tehachapi area. He will also be telling stories and answering questions about Tehachapi's ranching and agrarian past.

Across the street at the Tehachapi Museum, permanent exhibits on Tehachapi History, and in the Milano Gallery: an exhibit that shows the culture of the Kawaiisu tribe and our local Native Americans. Continuing temporary exhibits include a collection of Coca Cola miniature trucks and vehicles, a collection of Zuni, Navajo, and other Native American Bears, the Cuddebach family exhibit, and a collection of unique menus designed by local artist Gene Stirm.

Refreshments will be served at the Museum during the First Friday event.
