What's Up in Stallion Springs?

Senior Police Officer James Best Jr. is awarded the SSPD Life Saving Medal.

Senior Police Officer James Best Jr. was awarded the SSPD Life Saving Medal, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 by SSPD Chief of Police Michael J. Grant. In presenting the award, Chief Grant said, "On the evening of Friday, February 17, 2017, the County of Kern was struck by torrential downpours during a large rainstorm. The Cummings Valley area in Eastern Kern County suffered massive flooding due to the storm, causing road closures, and dangerous driving conditions. At approximately 2030 hours, SSPD Senior Police Officer James Best received a radio call of "a female trapped in a vehicle with water coming over the vehicle". The stranded subject later described the area as "a huge muddy river". At personal risk, SSPD Police Officer James Best Jr. rescued the victim and her dog from the rising flood waters. Both the victim and an officer from an outside agency stated that the victim and her dog would have surely drowned if not for the immediate intervention by Best. Because of his heroic, life-saving actions, teamwork on the fly, tenacity, dedication to duty, commitment to safety of the community, and for saving the life of a fellow human being and their pet.

Stallion Springs also welcomed a new officer, Donald Marvin, who prefers to go by "Donnie". He has over 26 years law enforcement experience with both the Kern County Sheriff's Office and San Bernardino Sheriff's office. Donnie is a welcome addition to our police department.
