Yoga and Soul

The Loop's Local Scene

Yoga Instructor Nikki Miller

During Lent Tehachapi Community Church is offering "Yoga and Soul" on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., with yoga instructor Nikki Miller. Nikki is a local instructor who has spent time teaching in India. She makes learning fun. Practicing yoga improves flexibility, balance, stress reduction and can improve overall health. Moreover, the principles inherent in yoga go beyond physical movements to encourage embracing non-violence and being a person of peace, a virtue compatible with any religion.

After 45 minutes of yoga, meditation is led by Pastor Nancy and then a spiritual practice introduced from within the local community.

Recently, Terry Lawrence and Jacquie Garza-Lawrence introduced and led three Native American spiritual songs with round dance and drumming. After ritual cleansing with sage, songs beckoned the Spirit's presence, then Eagle and Bear dancing were introduced. Terry and Jacquie practice both Native American spirituality and Christianity. They shared scripture about God raising people up like eagles and the dance allowed some sense of what that might feel like.

On Tuesday, March 21, Porter Underwood will introduce "Heart Meditation" after yoga. On March 28 a practice of "Soul Collage" will be introduced and on April 4, following the yoga there will be inspirational story telling. All are welcome.
