Lace 'n' Up Breast Cancer Walk

Links for Life, Tehachapi, was started in October 2009 as a support group for Breast Cancer Survivors by Mary VanBlake-Shoaf. Mary was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2007. In her quest for support through this trying time she found Links for Life in Bakersfield, California. The organization helps women under 40 years old by providing them with free mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsy, wigs and a variety of other support. It also provides wigs and support for women with Breast Cancer over 40 years old.

Link for Life holds an annual Breast Cancer Walk called Lace "n" Up. Mary decided to do the same event for Tehachapi to support the local women. On the first Saturday in October 2011, the Lace "n" Up, Tehachapi walk was started. The event started out small but now has over 100 walkers that participate showing their support for Breast Cancer awareness.

This year will be the 6th year for this event. The walk takes place on Saturday, October 1, 2016, with a $20.00 registration fee. It starts at the West Park Activity Center, 410 West D Street at 8 a.m. The walk proceeds down Tehachapi Boulevard ending at the Senior Center, 500 East F Street, with a breakfast for all the walkers. The walkers will be provided a bag of Breast Cancer items upon registration. Raffle tickets will also be sold for a variety of prizes. It is a fun event for all the family.

This event could not happen with out all the wonderful donations and support of the community, local businesses, Tehachapi Queens, Tehachapi Cheerleaders, Boy Scout Troops and the committee that works hard throughout the year to put this event together and make it a great success.

Please join us on Saturday, October 1, 2016, as we gather to walk and support the women who fight Breast Cancer everyday.
