First Friday Fun Fest will be celebrated at Tehachapi Treasure Trove on Friday evening, August 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. The Treasure Trove will feature Laura Durschland. Laura creates with leather in addition to fabrics. Join us to support Laura, enjoy food and wine, and listen to music by Art Larson on clarinet.

Laura started quilting and sewing with fabric. From quilting, it was an easy transition to leather. All her work is hand punched and hand sewn. She creates handmade saddle bags, rifle scabbards, holsters, knife sheaves, gun holsters, flash light belt cases and baby moccasins. In addition, Laura makes a number of fabric items. She has been working with leather for about 3 years. She started by helping a friend with the sewing. Laura's work has a western flare as she owned horses for twenty plus years until she had to trade two horses for three children (a poor swap in her opinion). Much of her leather work is designed for horseback riders. She also does leather cuffs and belts which shemakes to order. Her work is on display at the Treasure Trove where she is a vendor.

A long time resident of Southern California, Laura was born in Santa Monica and has lived most of her life in Culver City (with the exception of the two years she froze in Cooperstown, New York). She worked as a medical assistant and childcare provider while raising her children. Laura is currently caring for her elderly mother in Culver City but intends eventually to move to Tehachapi. Her daughter, son-in-law and nine month old grandson live in Tehachapi. Her son lives in Bakersfield. Her heart is in Tehachapi.

Tehachapi Treasure Trove is located at 116 E Tehachapi Boulevard, right across the street from the water tower in RailroadPark. Hours are daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Sundays 11 to 4). Be sure to stop by and see our collection of uncommonly eclectic and unusually unique stuff. Remember we carry an extensive line of art and craft supplies and artist services along with books, yarn, music and a jewelry studio.
