Tehachapi Scouts retire American Flags

In a well choreographed scene of dignity and respect, Tehachapi area Scouts held a retirement ceremony for old and tattered American flags. Collected by the scouts over the past year each flag is properly folded and placed upon a table adjacent to Coy Burnett bleachers. Upwards of four hundred were collected this year and each flag is passed from teams of scouts who salute as they pass off the colors. Arriving at the numerous fire pits the flags are unfurled, held up for presentation, then folded and gently placed upon the fire. A salute by all present at the fire pit follows, and the ritual is carried out until all flags are retired. After the ashes cool the copper grommets attached to each flag are collected cleaned and passed to former military service members as a thank you for their service to our nation.
