Tehachapi Gandy Dancers host Snow Picnic Dance

Despite the rainy weather, the Tehachapi Gandy Dancers Square Dance Club hosted their Snow Picnic 2015 Dance. A total of 22 people braved the elements to attend the dance with members representing the Aces and Deuces from Palmdale, the Joaquin Squares from Bakersfield, and of course, the Tehachapi Gandy Dancers. Two squares were on the dance floor at a time.

Bob Knowles provided the calls for the square dancing. Square dancers danced to a variety of music, from country to the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

Not only was there square dancing, a number of couples participated in Rounds dancing as well. Darrell Beck provided cueing for the Rounds. The Rounders danced to a variety of music as well, from country to contemporary to classical as well as music from the 1960s and 1970s.

Following an afternoon of dancing, everyone sat down to enjoy a wonderful variety of soups befitting the colder, wet weather. The Gandy Dancers also provided door prizes.

The next dance hosted by the Gandy Dancers will be the Wearing of the Green Dance in March 2015.

If you are interested in having fun while learning to square dance, the Gandy Dancers will have a new class starting 11 February 2015, the “Bring Your Sweetheart to Dance” class. You can come meet your neighbors and make new friends. Watch for the flyers and announcements posted around town.
