Lions Club Pushes to Top 200,000 Recycled Eyeglasses

Carlos makes the first deposit in the new Lions Club drop box for recycling eyeglasses now on display at Carlos Donut Shop.

Lions Clubs throughout the state collect used eyeglasses and bring them to regional Recycling Centers like the one in Lancaster, Calif. There they are repaired, cleaned and sorted by prescription strength. These are then distributed to people in need in developing countries. Last year Lions recycled over 200,000 pair of eyeglasses and are setting up more collection points to top that figure.

If you have eyeglasses you no longer use, please donate them now. Lions accept prescription and reading glasses, sunglasses in either plastic and metal frames. Children's glasses are especially needed. Drop boxes are located in several downtown restaurants, the Hospital Guild, Dr. John Fagan's office and Carlos' Donuts, both in Old Town, among others.
